Why we won’t let musicians rest in peaceIt’s called the “death effect” and it’s the same for actors, authors and artists — whether it’s an increase in exposure or a supply-induced demand (no more painter, no more paintings), public hunger for a person’s work grows exponentially following their passing. When it comes to musicians, however, the situation has the added element of necromancy, a sort of pop culture-tinged resurrection. From conspiracy theories claiming fake deaths to companies using technology to revive long-gone artists, audiences refuse to let musicians rest in peace. (Illustration by Steve Murray)

Jack White goes out on his own
It’s hard to overstate the nine-time Grammy winner’s importance on the past decade of music and culture, but The White Stripes helped usher in the popular look and feel of indie garage rock that introduced everyone from Michel Gondry to The Black Keys. White, famous for his minimalist aesthetic, falsetto and love of the blues, is finally releasing an album under his own name April 24. The new disc is called Blunderbuss and White has invited media from all over the world into his lair to catch an exclusive performance and talk about how it was made. We were there!

Extremely Bad Advice: Radio Fed Up
One of my co-workers has this strange and inappropriate love of Radiohead. This would be fine if he kept it to himself. But he can’t. And he won’t. He plays their music non-stop in his office and sends endless Radiohead updates via email. ‘Radiohead’s new video!’ ‘Radiohead’s new single!’ ‘Radiohead meets the Queen!’ I’ve told him how much I hate Radiohead but that only encourages him. What can I do to make my workspace a Radiohead-free zone?

Leonard Cohen: Portrait of the artist as an older manLeonard Cohen is releasing his 12th album, Old Ideas, on Jan. 31. Born in Montreal, Cohen learned guitar and formed his first band while a student at McGill, but the musician has always been more than just an everyday rock star. He’s a prophet, a poet, a sex symbol, an observant Jew who practices Zen, a businessman who lost his fortune, a muse and, perhaps most importantly, a father. The Post’s Ben Kaplan assembled a panel to dissect the various parts of the 77-year-old icon. (Illustration by Steve Murray)
